This year's Mercury transit lasted 7.5 hrs beginning at 7:12 ET and ending at 2:42 ET. Those of us on the west coast missed the early hours of the transit. The next Mercury transit is expected to be Nov 11, 2019, then not again until Nov 13, 2032. Transits occur ~13 times per century.
