Mount: Losmandy G-11 with Gemini
Camera: ST-10XME; CFW10 with Astrodon e-series Ha filter

Exposures: 4 hrs of hydrogen alpha (16 x 15 min subs)
Site: Backyard, Carlsbad, CA
Conditions: Calm, good seeing

 

Sharpless 86 (also known as NGC 6820) is an emission nebula spanning about 50 ly and located 6000 ly away. Notable features of this nebula re the many dark globules and prominant trunk-like dust pillar. The open cluster, NGC 6823, contains stars as young as 2 million years old.
