RA = 19h 58 min; Dec = +35 deg 9 min

Date & Site:

Imaged on 06/26 and 6/27/2012: Runningman Observatory, Carlsbad CA

Conditions: 1st quarter moon; clear, average seeing

Equipment:

Telescope: Celestron C9.25 at F6.3 fl=1480mm

Mount: Losmandy G-11 with Gemini; Antares .63 reducer
Camera: ST-10XME; CFW10 with Astrodon filters

Externally guided through an 80mm achromatic refractor

Notes:

Exposures: 2 hrs of Ha (3 nm). 1.5 hrs of OIII (3 nm) and 1 hr 10 min of SII (3 nm) using 10-min subexposuress. Total time: 4 hrs 40 min

Color mapped using Hubble palette: Ha=green; SII = red: OIII=blue. The nebula has strong Ha and SII emission surrounding a region dominated by ionized oxygen

FOV = 34 x 23 arc minutes

Radiation from a single star is thought to be fueling the emissions of the Tulip nebula This star (HDE 227018) is the bright star located near the center of the bright blue arching filament.

Located 2,000 light years away.
