Color processed by assigning OIII to blue; Ha+OII to green; and Ha to red.

Distance to M76 is currently estimated as 780 light years making the average dimensions of the nebula about 1.23 ly across. The UV-light from its nucleus is expanding the outer layers that form the present nebula and emit the hydrogen and ionized oxygen colored in the image.
