This image was captured at the minute of totality at 7:47pm in Carlsbad. This was one of several dozen images taken over 20 minutes to observe how the gradual darkening of the moon by Earth's shadow alters exposure time. All done to optimize the exposure for this one 5" image.
Stars can be seen scattered throughout the dark background sky giving the moon some perspective.
This image is reduced to 40% of the original for best fit on most displays.
