IC 5146 and Sh2-125: Cocoon Nebula in Cygnus

Conditions: mild wind; 62 degrees; average seeing

Camera: ST-10XME; CFW10 with Astrodon LRGB Gen I Filters; Internally guided

Notes:

Exposures: 120 min of Luminance (10 min subs) and 30 min RGB (5 min subs)

FOV = 32 x 22 arc minutes

Inside the Cocoon Nebula is a newly developing cluster of stars. The bright star near the center of this nebula is likely only a few hundred thousand years old. The designation IC 5146 refers to the star cluster while the nebula itself is cataloged as Sharpless 2-125.

Distance: 4,000 light years away
