Comet 3I/Atlas

Comet 3I/Atlas

Object Data

Object type: Interstellar Comet
Size: 1.2' (Coma Diameter)
Magnitude: 12.5
Constellation: Cancer
Distance: 2.06 AU; 308 million Km; 17 light minutes
Notes: Astrophysical studies have shown that Comet 3I/ATLAS could be much older than the Sun, possibly dating back to the earliest days of the universe. Further studies to analyze its velocity and trajectory relative to the Sun and other stars in the Milky Way suggest that 3I/ATLAS originated from a primitive stellar population formed early in the universe.  Its hyperbolic orbit is not bound to the Sun and this comet will never return.
