A rare aurora observed from the Southern
California Mountains on 5/10/24. The sun emitted a massive G5 geomagnetic storm which reached earth on 5/10/24. The ejection ionized the atmosphere creating the northern lights. This event was observed from the southern California mountains. A massive X3.7 class flare released from sunspots in AR3270 and 3271 along the southwestern surface a few days earlier is thought to be responsible for this colorful G5 event. The last prior G5 geomagetic storm was in 2003. |
