Also known as IC1805, stars within this open cluster emit stong radiation. This radiation, along with strong stellar winds, ignite the dense hydrogen clouds at the center of the Heart nebula shown here.

Location: Backyard Observatory, Carlsbad, CA
Telescope: TEC 140 refractor telescope; 980mm focal length at f/7.
Camera: ASI 294mm pro with Astronomik narrowband filters; Off-axis guiding using an SBIG STi
Mount: Losmandy G-11 Gemini I
Exposure times: Ha: 8 x 15 min, OIII: 12 x 15 min; SII 15 x 15 min All subs 2x2 binned
Exposure time total: 8.75 hrs
Notes: Color mapped using a modified Hubble palette: Red = (SII x 0.5) + (Ha x 0.6); Green = (Ha x 0.5) + (OIII x 0.4); Blue = OIII.  Ha channel used for stars.

Image was taken on a bright 3rd Q moon and high humidity; but excellent seeing.
