Size: About 100 light years long (2.5 deg)
Magnitude: 6
Constellation: Perseus
Distance: 1,000 light years
 
Notes: The bright star to the right  of the nebula is Menkib, an young hot O7 type star.  Radiation from Menkib excites the surrounding molecular hydrogen and illuminates this nebula.

Location: Backyard Observatory, Carlsbad, CA
Telescope: Williams Optics Star 71, 5-element.  350mm at f/4.9
Camera: QSI 683 wgs with  Astronomik 6nm Ha OIII  and SII narrowband filters
Mount: Losmandy G-11 Gemini I
Exposure time: Ha:18 x 15 min; SII 18 x 15 min; OIII 6 x 15 min
Exposure time total: 10.5 hrs
Notes:
Color mapped by assigning Ha to Red, OIII to Blue and SII to Green
FOV = 2.8 x  2.2 degrees
